Subject: Lamar University - Graduate Engineering Programs

Dear Sir or Madam

I am the Master’s Coordinator for the College of Engineering at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas (USA), and I am contacting you regarding opportunities for your students in our Master’s programs in engineering. Some of your students have joined our graduate programs in the past 3 years, and we have been impressed with the quality of your students. I will appreciate it if you could forward this letter and the attached brochure to your students who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree in the United States.

We provide scholarships to several of our master’s students that result in a reduction of their tuition from approximately $16,000 per year to the in-state level of about $8,000 per year. Our excellent education at the College of Engineering coupled with ready access to industries and close proximity to the Houston metropolitan area makes Lamar University an attractive destination for a large number of engineering students.

Lamar University is located in Beaumont, Texas and is an hour away from Houston. Beaumont is at the heart of the petrochemical and energy industry hub of the United States, which includes four major refineries as well as over 50 engineering companies that hire chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering graduates every year. The College of Engineering has about 1,600 undergraduate students, 250 graduate students, and 90 doctoral students. Many of the master’s students are from south Asia and are successfully pursuing masters’ degrees (thesis option or coursework option) in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering as well as engineering management. This advanced education is an essential ingredient in today’s high-tech industries. Our industry partners tell us there is a growing need for engineering and management training in complex systems that have many interdependent parts and significant organizational and/or societal impact. Based on this industry input, we have created masters programs that prepare our graduates to function well in an industrial setting. The curriculum provides students with knowledge and skills to design, develop, and manage complex projects requiring wide-ranging engineering competencies. Our alumni report that earning their degrees at Lamar University has provided them with unique perspectives and experiences they have used in the workplace.

Our master’s programs fall in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Classification from the standpoint of OPT (Optional Practical Training), which allows the graduates of our master’s programs to work in the U.S. for 36 months after receiving their master’s degree. In addition, the application fee of 75 USD will be waived for the period March 1, 2018 to July 1, 2018. If accepted between this time period, we will waive cost of courier service to deliver students’ I-20 from Lamar University which will allow the I-20 to be quickly expedited. This is for the initial I-20 issuance only. Any subsequent courier costs are the responsibility of the student.

I invite your questions about our master’s degree programs. Also, take a moment and find out more today at our website - http://engineering.lamar.edu.

Best Regards
