ANNUAL SPORTS FEST (SPORTZ – 2020)

Maharaja Agrasen Technical Education Society, organised its annual Sports fest “SPORTZ-2020” at college campus on January 30 & January 31, 2020.

The Chief Guest of the day Sh. Brij Mohan Garg, Chairman, Maharaja Agrasen Welfare Society and Smt. Kamlesh Garg inaugurated the event. Guest of Honour for the Inaugural function was Prof. A K Bakshi, Founder Vice Chancellor of PDM University, Haryana.  The event was presided by Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, Founder and Chief Advisor, MATES. Other dignitaries were Sh. Jagdish Mittal, Vice Chairman, MATES, Sh. Umesh Gupta, Vice- Chairman, MATES, Sh Rajnish Gupta, Secretary MATES, Prof. S K Garg, Director General, MAIMS, Prof. Neelam Sharma, Director, MAIT, Prof. Ravi Gupta, Director MAIMS and Prof. S S Deswal, Dean Academics, MAIT.

In his welcome address, Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, cheered up the participants with his motivational and inspirational thoughts. He emphasised on the importance of sports in life and advised the students to include sports in their daily routine. He concluded his speech with the message that Sport fosters many things that are good; Teamwork and Leadership.

The event was declared open by the Chief Guest with the release of balloons. Students competed in numerous sports events such as Race, shot put, long jump, rope skipping, badminton, carom, chess, table tennis etc.(for both boys and girls category). An event of Rope Skipping in a minute was held for girls only category. This year a new sports event of Inter Departmental Basketball was also introduced. The winners of the same were MAIMS (1^st position), ECE, MAIT (2^nd Position), MAE, MAIT (3^rd Position). The highlight of the events was “Tug of War”. More than 1400 students participated in total, in all these events. For faculty and non teaching staff, the events held were Tug of war, race, shot put, long jump, rope skipping, badminton, carom, chess, table tennis, lemon spoon race and Brisk walk for various age groups.

Prize distribution ceremony was held on second day (31^st January, 2020) and the winners were bestowed with medals, certificates of acknowledgement of victory by the Chief Guest of the day, Prof. Neelam Sharma, Director , MAIT, Sh Rajnish Gupta, Secretary, MATES, Prof. Ravi Gupta , Director, MAIMS and Prof. S.S.Deswal Dean Academics, MAIT. Gift vouchers (Rs 2400/- For Winners, Rs.1800/- for 1^st runner-up and Rs. 1200/- for 2^nd runner-up) were also distributed to the winning students sponsored by Campus Shoes.

Ms. Khyati Agarwal (3^rd year, EEE, MAIT) and Mr. Sahil Garg (3^rd year, IT, MAIT) were awarded with Chairman’s Trophy for best Sports Person of Year in girls and boys category respectively. The event was successfully completed under the supervision of Mr. Anil Kumar Dahiya, Sports Coordinator, Assistant Professor (MAE, Deptt.) and his team. Ms. Garima Sharma and Ms. Surbhi Upadhyay, Assistant Professors (MAE, Deptt.) compered the event. The fruitful and the exciting events came to an end on second day with lots of memories, lessons and accomplishments for the participants highlighting the importance of sports and a sporting spirit.
